Lochard House – Hutton Mount, Shenfield

Spatial Design was approached by a private client to design and project manage the refurbishment and extensions to their existing house in Roundwood Avenue, Hutton Mount, Shenfield, Essex. The project was a mixture of contemporary interiors and the extensions were to use traditional materials i.e. oak structure in a modern form.

The client’s brief was to demolish the existing rear conservatory and for Spatial Design to design a grand living / garden space. The double height storey extension was designed to match the existing house main materials of red brick and plain clay roof tiles whilst introducing a structure built in Oak.

The Structure was designed to have a vaulted ceiling with stainless steel structural restraint ties with electric operated roof lights and self cleaning glass. The main entrance was designed to match the rear extension form, whilst also providing the privacy with acid etch glass to the front elevation.

The Interiors concept to the ground floor comprised of two main materials i.e. oak and bronze windows, solid oak doors and bespoke bronze ironmongery throughout. The kitchen was designed by SD and built / installed by lemongrass kitchens; a contrast to the lower ground floor, the kitchen was designed with curves using walnut and stainless steel.

The project was a complete overhaul of the house exterior and interior finishes from a new roof structure, windows and doors, extensions internal floor level changes and a complete interior design fit-out including all bathrooms, en-suites and interior decoration.

The rear garden room and front entrance oak and glazed structures were pre-fabricated off site by Vale Garden Houses and installed by Vale Garden Houses once the super and sub structure was completed by the contractor. The scheme was on site for a year with SD working in association with New Eden Landscapes for the external works package.

The scheme also included new external front entrance walls and electric operated gates and the refurbishment of the out houses, garage and swimming pool.
